Hosted on May 21, 2024, Upstream hosted Sarah from MCCOY to give us an Advocacy 101 training. This short 75 minute training fits easily over a lunch break as a "Lunch & Learn", focusing on the basics of how a policy moves through cities/counties and at the state level, the difference between advocacy and lobbying, and the start of how to engage with policy-makers to have your voice heard.
Hosted on May 12, 2022, Kathleen took us back to the basics of Prevention, and how Harm Reduction can be incorporated into comprehensive substance misuse prevention efforts. This short one-hour training fits easily over a lunch break as a "Lunch & Learn", focusing on the basic definitions of harm reduction and prevention, guiding principals of harm reduction and prevention, and how the two can be used together to comprehensively and collaboratively address substance misuse.
Hosted on October 26, 2021, Heather and Tina from School Care Team Untangle Social Emotional Learning for us. This webinar focused on:
· Describe Social Emotional Learning and the Indiana Department of Education’s SEL framework
· Provide an opportunity for personal reflection concerning public education and SEL
· Acknowledge concerns surrounding SEL and its role in public schools
· Offer practical suggestions for addressing specific concerns with your district
· Respond to questions and offer additional resources
The Search Institute's Developmental Assets provide a well-researched framework for building strength and protective factors in youth, and across the lifespan! Divided into internal and external factors, each asset centers on building relationships, opportunities, values, or increasing social-emotional strengths -- all the things Upstream wants for our youth and neighbors!
To do this, Upstream invites you to explore the Developmental Assets with us via our bi-weekly e-Blasts. We started by highlighting the importance of Protective Factors, and doing an initial overview of the Developmental Assets (you can view it here).
