Empower’s October Highlight: Meet Sonya Ware-Meguiar

It has been a privilege for me to mentor the next generation of female leaders while inspiring them to be strong, smart, and bold women.

Sonya Ware-Meguiar, Empower’s Youth Serving Sector Representative, is a licensed clinical social worker with over 32 years of experience in the non-profit arena. She has been serving as the CEO of Girls Inc. of Johnson County for nearly 14 years and still calls it her “dream job”.

Locally, Ware-Meguiar is a graduate of Leadership Johnson County and was inducted into the Beech Grove High School Hall of Fame in 2009. In addition to Empower Johnson County, she serves the community in many other initiatives including: Drug Free Johnson County, Johnson County Exchange Club, ASSIST Indiana, 100 Women Who Care of Johnson County, Aspire Economic Development + Chamber Alliance, and Franklin Chamber of Commerce.

When she is not serving her community and advocating for the betterment of Johnson County, Ware-Meguiar enjoys golfing and spending time with her husband and son.

How do the missions of Girls Inc. of Johnson County and Empower Johnson County align?

More About Girls Inc. of Johnson County

Girls Inc. of Johnson County has been providing safe, quality, and enriching after school and summer programs for the young women in our community for 75 years. Located in the heart of Franklin, Indiana, Girls Inc. serves over 400 girls through daily after school programs and summer day camp. Girls Inc. responds to the changing needs of girls through research-based programs and public education efforts that empower girls to understand, value, and assert their rights.

Girls Inc. of Johnson County is currently in phase four of their Capital Campaign which includes a remodel to transform the original, small, outdated kitchen in their building into a teaching kitchen and science lab. This transformation will provide endless program opportunities for girls to learn about science and how to prepare healthy and nutritious meals and snacks.

Girls Inc. of Johnson County provides a summer day camp program for girls ages 5-18 years old in Johnson County. There are two camp locations for 2022.
